The NSW Minister for Industry, Resources and Energy, Anthony Roberts, today congratulated the four new Australian Research Council (ARC) Centres of Excellence to be headquartered in New South Wales.
These were announced today by Senator The Hon. Simon Birmingham, Minister for Education and Training, who announced nine nationally as part of the Australian Research Council 2017 Centres of Excellence Program.
“The ARC Centres of Excellence Program is the most prestigious research centres program in Australia. I am proud of the four Centres of Excellence coming to NSW and congratulate the researchers involved,” said Mr Roberts.
“The NSW Government is a strong supporter of the ARC Centres of Excellence and is proud to support the work by investing a total of $4 million in the Centres of Excellence headquartered in NSW,” said Mr Roberts.
The new NSW Centres of Excellence are:
- the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes, headquartered at the University of New South Wales, Director, Professor Andrew Pitman;
- the ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research, headquartered at the University of New South Wales, Director, Professor John Piggott;
- the ARC Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology, headquartered at the University of New South Wales, Director, Professor Michelle Simmons; and
- the ARC Centre of Excellence for Australian Biodiversity and Heritage, headquartered at the University of Wollongong, Director, Professor Richard Roberts.
NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer, Professor Mary O’Kane, said this funding will continue to position NSW as a leader in high-quality, high-impact research.
