New South Wales remains the premier state for engineering with 40% of Australia's most influential engineers based here.
The nation's peak engineering body, Engineers Australia, has released its 12th annual list of the Top 100 Influential Engineers.
40% of those on the list are working in NSW – down from 43% last year – but well clear of Western Australia (15%), Queensland and Victoria (14%), the ACT (6%), South Australia (4%) and Tasmania (2%).
The University of New South Wales remains the biggest source of Top 100 engineers (16%) – ahead of the University of Queensland (10%) and the University of Sydney (5%).
And a record 19 women appear in this year's list – up from 11% last year and just 5% the year before.
NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer Mary O'Kane, who appears in the Top 100 again this year, says the State's engineering community should feel rightly proud.
"This is a great achievement for New South Wales," Professor O'Kane said.
"It is further evidence of the wealth of expertise our State has in a range of engineering disciplines."
